Our discussions provided invaluable insights, and we remain deeply appreciative of the time and expertise you shared with us. The perspectives you offered continue to inform our work within the Swedish Government\u2019s Committee for a Future with Children. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurewithchildren.se\/\">https:\/\/www.futurewithchildren.se\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify\">We would also like to share with you our first publication, \u201cThe Silent Crisis: The Impact of Declining Birth Rates on Sweden\u2019s Economy and Welfare\u201d, which was released in December. On 17 December 2025, The Head of the Committee \u00c5sa Hansson presented the report to the Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health, Jakob Forssmed. No-1-The-silent-crisis-002.pdf<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The analysis highlights Sweden\u2019s demographic trajectory toward an ageing and shrinking population, and the far\u2011reaching implications this may have if current trends persist.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Our projections indicate that, by the next turn of the century, Sweden\u2019s GDP could fall to less than half of what would be expected under stable demographic conditions. This shift risks placing significant strain on public finances, reducing the effectiveness of monetary policy, and increasing the likelihood of long\u2011term economic stagnation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify\">While technological advancement and migration can mitigate some of these pressures, neither development alone can fully offset the decline in the labour force caused by falling fertility. The Committee concludes that Sweden must begin adapting now, and that more ambitious, long\u2011term reforms will be required to strengthen fertility, sustain economic growth, and secure the foundations of the welfare system.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Given the importance of these issues, we are particularly grateful for the opportunity we had to learn from your experience and policy approaches.
